Winter in Minneapolis is arena season, and Target Center has a run of non-basketball dates stacked into January and February 2027: the Harlem Globetrotters on New Year’s Day, a Hot Wheels stunt show, Dancing with the Stars: Live! and Greta Van Fleet. If you are staying with us month to month and would rather not warm up a car in January, here is how we think about getting to the building.
Which Target Center shows are coming in January and February?
These dates and times come from the Target Center events calendar as it stood on Oct. 18. Confirm each on the arena site before you buy, since listings change.
Fri., Jan. 1, 7:00 p.m.: Harlem Globetrotters.
Sat.–Sun., Jan. 16–17: Hot Wheels Stunt Show (times not listed on the calendar).
Sun., Jan. 24, 1:00 p.m.: Minny is Unrivaled.
Sat., Jan. 30, 7:30 p.m.: Dancing with the Stars: Live!
Mon., Feb. 15, 7:00 p.m.: Greta Van Fleet.

Can you do it without a car?
Oakland’s on 9th is at 215 South 9th Street in downtown Minneapolis, and Target Center is at 600 First Avenue North, also downtown. We have not timed the walk, so we will not quote one. What we can say is that you are already in the downtown core, which is the point of staying with us. Open the Metro Transit trip planner for your show night and compare walking and transit options for that evening’s weather. For the skyway, remember that Oakland’s is one block from it, not connected, so you step outside to reach it.
Winter tip: dress for the walk back after the show, not the walk there. Target Center’s event pages for recent shows have listed a cashless building, a small-bag limit and no re-entry once you leave, so read the notes for your date before you head out.
Why a month-to-month studio works for show season
Every Oakland’s studio is furnished with a full kitchen, with WiFi, utilities, heat and free laundry included, and there are no contracts. That matters in winter: eat before the show in your own kitchen, come home to heat you do not have to think about, and stay a night, a week or the whole season. Some units are pet friendly. We have written more about the building’s places to stay and more downtown ideas in our November downtown guide.

Planning a Wolves night instead? Our guide to getting to a Vikings game without a car uses the same logic, and our Gophers hockey post covers the Oct. 22 opener. For a broader pre-show date, read our earlier Target Center post.
