Target Center sits at 600 First Avenue North, right in the heart of downtown Minneapolis — and this August its calendar is packed. The Minnesota Lynx play five home games, J. Cole brings The Fall-Off Tour to town, and Tame Impala closes out the month two nights after the State Fair opens. If you’re coming in for any of it, you can skip the parking scramble entirely: Oaklands on 9th is about a 15-minute walk from the arena.
Here’s what’s on the calendar, verified on the official Target Center events page, with enough lead time for you to lock in a place to stay.
Minnesota Lynx: five home games in August
The Lynx — 20–2 at home last season — have a big August at Target Center, including a four-game homestand the first weekend of the month:
- Sunday, August 2 vs. Indiana Fever — 12:00 PM
- Thursday, August 6 vs. Los Angeles Sparks — 8:00 PM
- Saturday, August 8 vs. the reigning-champion Las Vegas Aces — 12:00 PM
- Sunday, August 9 vs. Dallas Wings — 2:30 PM
- Monday, August 24 vs. Golden State Valkyries — 7:00 PM
Tickets for all five are on the Lynx’s official ticket page. The weekend tip-off times are family-friendly, and a Saturday-noon game leaves the whole evening free for dinner downtown. If you’d rather squeeze in a game before August, the Lynx also host the Toronto Tempo on July 28, with Olivia Dean playing the arena July 29.
J. Cole: The Fall-Off Tour — Tuesday, August 18
J. Cole plays Target Center on Tuesday, August 18 at 8:00 PM. A Tuesday show is a great excuse for a midweek stay: check in that afternoon, walk to the arena, and sleep in your own studio instead of fighting post-show traffic out of a ramp. Tame Impala with Dominic Fike — Friday, August 28
Tame Impala’s Deadbeat Tour lands Friday, August 28 at 7:00 PM, with special guest Dominic Fike. It’s the biggest concert weekend of the Minneapolis summer’s home stretch — the Minnesota State Fair opens the day before, so you can do the fair by day and the show by night from one home base. Stay a 15-minute walk from the arena
Oaklands on 9th is a restored 1889 brownstone at 215 South 9th Street with fully furnished studios — full kitchen, WiFi, all utilities, and free laundry included.
