The Guthrie’s A Christmas Carol opens on November 11 and runs through December 27, 2026, which makes it one of the longest holiday runs in Minneapolis. If you are coming to town for it, or planning a family trip around it, Oakland’s on 9th is a restored 1889 brownstone at 215 South 9th Street with fully furnished studios, full kitchens, and no contract, so you can book a night, a week, or a month.

What to know about A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie
These details come straight from the Guthrie’s production page:
- Dates: Nov. 11 through Dec. 27, 2026, with previews Nov. 11–13.
- Where: the Wurtele Thrust Stage at the Guthrie Theater, 818 South 2nd Street, Minneapolis.
- Runtime: about 1 hour, 45 minutes, including intermission.
- Tickets: $36 to $161 including fees, with previews starting at $36. Discounts are offered for seniors, students, children and groups of 15 or more.
- Ages: recommended for ages 8 and up. The show includes loud noises, strobe lights, haze and fog.
- Access: ASL-interpreted, audio-described and open-captioned performances run on select dates, and a relaxed performance is set for Sunday, Nov. 29 at 6 p.m.
The production is a faithful adaptation of the Dickens classic with original music, adapted by Lavina Jadhwani and directed by Addie Gorlin-Han. The Guthrie also opens a pop-up bar, Fezziwig’s Holiday Party, in the Target Lounge on Level Four, starting 90 minutes before showtime and running through intermission. Check the Guthrie calendar for the full list of performance days and times.
Why a long run suits a furnished studio
With a run of more than six weeks, you are not tied to a single weekend. That is where a furnished studio earns its keep:
- Families and groups can spread out in a studio with a full kitchen instead of splitting a hotel room, and cook a meal before the show.
- Longer visits work too. Wi-Fi, utilities, heat and laundry are included, so a week or a month costs you no extra setup.
- Pet owners can ask about our pet-friendly units before booking.

Getting to the Guthrie from Oakland’s on 9th
Both the Guthrie and Oakland’s on 9th are in downtown Minneapolis. Rather than quote a walking time, plug your own start and end points into the Metro Transit trip planner for current routes. If you are curious how winter walking works downtown, our guide to the Minneapolis skyway is worth a look. The skyway is one block from our door, not connected to the building, so you walk a block outdoors to reach it.
Make it a holiday week
A Christmas Carol overlaps with the rest of the downtown holiday calendar. The Christkindl Market runs Nov. 20 to Dec. 20, and we have a full guide to where to stay for the Minneapolis Christkindl Market. You can also read what else is playing in our Guthrie season guide.
If you are also looking for a mansion stay, our sister properties are 300 Clifton, a historic Loring Park bed and breakfast, and the Pillsbury Club, where Minneapolis Trolley Tours departs.
