Can You Get to a Timberwolves Game at Target Center From Downtown Minneapolis Without a Car? Home Dates Oct. 25 to Nov. 8

The Minnesota Timberwolves open their home schedule at Target Center in late October, and if you’re living or staying downtown, you don’t need a car, a parking reservation or a designated driver to get to a game. Here are the home dates on Target Center’s calendar, what to know before you walk in, and how a furnished studio at Oakland’s on 9th fits a basketball month.

When are the Timberwolves home games this fall?

These come from the Target Center events calendar. Confirm tip-off times and tickets there, because times are not on the arena’s list view:

  • Wednesday, October 14 — preseason vs. the Detroit Pistons
  • Sunday, October 25 — vs. the Toronto Raptors
  • Wednesday, October 28 — vs. the Golden State Warriors
  • Friday, October 30 — vs. the Los Angeles Clippers
  • Monday, November 2 — vs. the Milwaukee Bucks
  • Sunday, November 8 — vs. the Utah Jazz

That’s three home games in the span of a week (October 25, 28 and 30), with a fourth on November 2. It’s also the same stretch as Zac Brown Band at Target Center on October 23, so the arena has one of its busiest runs of the fall. We covered that crowded stretch in our guide to getting to a Gophers game on the same no-car logic.

Can you walk or ride to Target Center from Oakland’s on 9th?

Yes, and it’s the main reason to base yourself downtown. Oakland’s on 9th is at 215 South 9th Street; Target Center is at 600 First Avenue North, on the other side of downtown. Both are inside the downtown core, so the trip is a walk through the city on a dry night or a short ride on a wet one. The Metro Transit trip planner will give you a route for your exact game time, and Target Center’s own Getting Here page covers rideshare and drop-off.

One honest note, since late October is when downtown starts to turn cold: the downtown skyway system is about a block from our door, but our building is not connected to it. You’ll be outside for that first block. After that, the skyways are a good way to stay warm on the walk, but check the skyway’s hours before you count on it for a late return.

What should you know before you go?

  • Small bags only. Target Center’s arena policy permits bags no larger than 5″ x 9″, plus diaper and medical bags, subject to search on entry.
  • No strollers. The arena says strollers are not permitted inside.
  • Door times vary. Check the specific game page before you plan dinner.
  • Skip the parking hunt. If you do bring a car for the week, our post on overnight parking downtown lays out the options.

Why a furnished studio works for a basketball month

If you’re in town for more than a weekend, whether you’re a visiting fan, a travel nurse on assignment at HCMC, or someone relocating, the math changes. Every studio at Oakland’s on 9th is furnished with a full kitchen, and WiFi, utilities, heat and laundry are included,, so you can eat before the game at home. There are no contracts: stay a night, a week or a month. Some units are pet friendly.

The building itself is an 1889 brownstone downtown, restored in 2019, close to Target Center, the Armory, U.S. Bank Stadium and Target Field. If you’d rather not decide between the arena and the couch, our guide to getting to a Wild game shows the same walk-or-ride approach for hockey, and our skyway guide explains how to use the system.
