One of the quiet advantages of staying at Oaklands on 9th is that every studio comes with a full kitchen — a real stove, a real refrigerator, actual counter space. And in summer, downtown Minneapolis rewards that kitchen generously: two of Minnesota’s best farmers markets sit an easy walk or a short ride from our front door at 215 South 9th Street.
Whether you’re here for a week, a month, or somewhere in between, here’s how to shop like a local this season.
Mill City Farmers Market: Saturday mornings on the riverfront
The Mill City Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., May through September (9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in October), at 750 South 2nd Street — tucked between the Mill City Museum and the Guthrie Theater in the Mill District. It’s a genuinely lovely market: local growers, small-batch food makers, and breakfast worth arriving hungry for, all set against the ruins of the old flour mills.
From Oaklands it’s about a mile on foot — an easy, flat 20-minute walk that doubles as a tour of Minneapolis history. We mapped the route in our guide to walking the Mill District from Oaklands on 9th. Go early, shop first, then carry your coffee onto the Stone Arch Bridge before heading home.
Minneapolis Farmers Market on Lyndale: the big one, five days a week
The Minneapolis Farmers Market at 312 East Lyndale Avenue North has been feeding this city since 1876. For the 2026 season (May 2 through October 31) it’s open Wednesday through Friday 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and weekends from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. — which makes it the weekday option when you need to restock mid-stay.
It sits just past the North Loop near Target Field, about five minutes from downtown by car or rideshare; Metro Transit can plan a bus route from Nicollet Mall if you’d rather skip driving altogether. For even more market options around the city, Meet Minneapolis keeps a good running guide.

From market bag to your own kitchen
This is where an extended-stay studio quietly beats a hotel room. A carton of farm eggs, a bag of tomatoes, and sweet corn in August are only worth buying if you have somewhere to cook them — and every studio here does. Full kitchens come standard in all three of our tiers, along with WiFi, all utilities, and free laundry, on simple month-to-month terms with no contracts. Buy the good bread. You have a place to keep it.

Make a market morning part of a bigger weekend
On the nights you’d rather let someone else do the cooking, our downtown Minneapolis dining guide covers favorites within walking distance. Want the wider tour? Minneapolis Trolley Tours rolls past the city’s landmarks with a local storyteller at the wheel. And if friends or family are visiting for the weekend, our sister property 300 Clifton — a restored 1887 mansion bed and breakfast just south of downtown — makes a memorable home base for them.
Ready to spend a summer month (or just a week) two blocks off Nicollet Mall with a kitchen of your own? Check availability and book your studio, or call us at (612) 314-5124 — we’re happy to help you pick the right fit.
