A wedding brings people to town for longer than a night. The parents arrive on Wednesday to help. The college friends fly in Thursday for the rehearsal dinner. Somebody’s grandmother needs a quiet place to rest between the ceremony and the reception, and half the party wants to stay through Sunday brunch. Downtown hotels are built for a night or two; Oakland’s on 9th is built for exactly this kind of week. Here is how our furnished studios at 215 South 9th Street work for wedding guests, and why families keep booking several of them at once.
A night, a week or a month, with no lease
Every studio at Oakland’s on 9th is fully furnished and can be booked by the night, the week or the month, with no contract and no lease. Monthly stays carry the lowest rate, but there is no minimum: a cousin who can only make the weekend and an aunt who is staying ten days to help with the flowers can both be accommodated in the same restored 1889 brownstone. Three furnished tiers, Good, Better and Best, let a family match rooms to budgets. Good is the most affordable and compact; Better adds living and work space with a large desk; Best is the largest, with city views, a bay window, an electric fireplace and a queen bed. If you need several studios for the same dates, call us at (612) 314-5124 and we will help you put the block together.

What a wedding week actually needs: a kitchen, a washer and a door that opens at 2 a.m.
Every studio has a full kitchen with a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, and the dishes, pots and utensils to use them, plus a coffee maker with coffee and tea provided. For a family in town for five days that is the difference between eating out three times a day and having breakfast in a bathrobe before the salon appointment. All utilities are included, as is free high-speed WiFi and ethernet, and there is free 24-hour laundry on site, which matters more than you would think when a flower girl has spilled something on the dress rehearsal outfit the night before. Check-in is contactless: you receive a personal keycode for the building and your studio before you arrive, so guests landing on a late flight or coming back from the dance floor at 2 a.m. let themselves in without a front desk. Staff are on site day and night and reachable by phone if anything comes up. Check-out is 10 a.m., with a late check-out available for a fee if you arrange it ahead, and we have written up how arrival works in detail.
Two things to tell your guests honestly before they book. Oakland’s on 9th is a historic 1889 building and access to the studios is by stairs; there is no guest elevator, so an older relative who finds stairs difficult should ask us before reserving, and we explain the layout in our post about the stairs. And the Minneapolis Skyway is a block’s walk away rather than connected to the building, which in a Minnesota winter wedding season is a fact worth knowing, even if the walk is short.
Parking at the door, pets welcome, and getting in from the airport
Parking is available right at the door in Lot 215, which spares the wedding party the downtown ramp hunt; our parking guide has the details. Designated pet-friendly studios mean the couple’s dog, or the one that is walking down the aisle with the rings, has somewhere to stay too; request a pet-friendly room when you book. Guests flying in can reach downtown from MSP by light rail or cab (the airport’s ground transportation page lists the options, and we have a step-by-step guide), and Metro Transit’s trip planner will route anyone from the building to a ceremony across town.

Where the rest of the weekend happens
From the front door it is a walk to Nicollet Mall, Orchestra Hall, the Minneapolis Convention Center, Target Center, Target Field, the Armory and U.S. Bank Stadium, with a Target two blocks away for the forgotten toothbrush and the emergency safety pins. Groceries for a week are covered in our walkable grocery guide. For the events themselves, our sister properties can help: the Pillsbury Club in the Charles S. Pillsbury Mansion has private club rooms for a small rehearsal dinner or a welcome drink, including the Emerald Suite for up to 10 guests; 300 Clifton, a 1906 mansion in Loring Park, hosts weddings and whole-house rentals; and Minneapolis Trolley Tours offers private charters for special events, which is one way to move a wedding party across town that everyone will photograph.
How to book for a wedding group
Book single studios directly at our reservation page, and when you need three or four for the same week, call (612) 314-5124 or email info@oaklandson9th.com with your dates and we will sort out the rooms, the pet-friendly requests and any late check-outs for the morning after. Downtown Minneapolis is a wonderful place to get married. It is an even better place to have the people you love stay for the whole week.
