Pet-Friendly Extended Stays in Downtown Minneapolis: What to Know Before You Bring Your Pet

Finding a place to stay in a new city is one thing. Finding one that welcomes your dog or cat too is another. If you’re heading to Minneapolis for a few weeks or a few months and you’d rather not leave your pet behind, the good news is that a downtown extended stay can be surprisingly easy on both of you. At Oaklands on 9th, some of our furnished studios are pet friendly, and the building’s spot in the heart of downtown puts grass, sidewalks, and a real off-leash dog park within an easy walk.

Why a furnished studio beats a hotel when you have a pet

Most downtown hotels either don’t take pets at all or charge a nightly fee that adds up fast over a long stay. A furnished, month-to-month studio works differently. You get a full kitchen, your own quiet space, and the kind of steady routine that pets settle into quickly: no housekeeping knocking each morning, no daily pet surcharge stacking up week after week.

For longer assignments and relocations, that consistency matters. Your pet has one home base instead of a rotating set of rooms, and you have a real kitchen to keep feeding schedules, store food, and cook your own meals. If you’re weighing the trade-offs, our guide on furnished month-to-month vs. an extended-stay hotel walks through how to choose.

What’s included, and what to ask about pets

Every studio comes fully furnished, with WiFi, heat, all utilities, and free laundry included; no contracts and no surprise add-ons. You can stay a night, a week, or a month. Because some units are pet friendly and some are not, the one thing to do before you book is simply tell us you’re traveling with a pet. Let us know what kind and roughly how big, and we’ll match you with the right studio. A quick call to (612) 314-5124 or a note to info@oaklandson9th.com sorts it out in a couple of minutes.

Walks, parks, and green space near Oaklands on 9th

One of the best parts of staying downtown with a pet is how close the green space is. Loring Park sits a short walk southwest of the building, and its official off-leash dog park in the park’s north corner is double-gated, with room for your dog to actually run. Bring proof of vaccinations and a leash for the walk over; the city limits handlers to three dogs at a time.

From there it’s an easy stroll to the Sculpture Garden and, a little farther, the Mississippi riverfront, where the flat, scenic paths through the old Mill District are a pleasure to wander with a dog. For ideas on filling the rest of your day, Meet Minneapolis keeps a running list of what’s happening around town.

Getting around downtown with your pet

You don’t need a car to stay here, since the skyway, light rail, and buses cover most of downtown. One thing worth knowing: Metro Transit asks that pets ride in a carrier (service animals are exempt), so a small dog or cat travels fine, while bigger dogs are happiest on foot or in your own car. We cover the details, including where to park if you bring a vehicle, in our post on getting around downtown Minneapolis without a car.

Make yourself, and your pet, at home

We’re a family of animal lovers; our sister bed-and-breakfast, 300 Clifton, is run by the same hosts (and the same very patient resident Great Dane). When you’re settled and ready to explore on a day off, a Minneapolis Trolley Tours ride is a fun, low-effort way to see the city.

If you’re planning a Minneapolis stay and want to bring your dog or cat along, we’d love to host you both. Check availability and book a pet-friendly studio at Oaklands on 9th, or call us at (612) 314-5124 and we’ll help you find the right fit.
