Can You Cook Thanksgiving Dinner in a Furnished Studio in Downtown Minneapolis? A Month-to-Month Stay With a Full Kitchen

Yes. Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026, and if you are spending it in downtown Minneapolis on a work assignment, a relocation or a long stay, you do not have to eat it from a takeout box. Every studio at Oakland’s on 9th is furnished and has a real, full-size kitchen with cookware and dishes already in the cupboards, so you can cook a holiday meal in your own place, on your own schedule.

What does a furnished studio kitchen make possible?

Our guide to what is included in a furnished studio covers the basics: WiFi, all utilities, heat and free laundry are part of the rate, and there is no lease. Add the full kitchen and Thanksgiving becomes easy to plan. You are not working around a hotel minibar or a single microwave, and you are not paying nightly rates to eat out for a week.

The honest caveat is size. These are studios, built for one or two people, so think of Thanksgiving as a scaled-down feast: a roasted turkey breast or a small bird, two or three sides, and a pie. Before you shop, call the front desk at (612) 314-5124 and ask what cookware is in your particular studio, so you know whether you need to buy a roasting pan or a baking dish.

Where do you buy Thanksgiving groceries downtown?

We keep a walkable list in our guide to buying groceries downtown, including what is a short walk from the building. Shop earlier in the week than you think you need to, because a frozen turkey takes days to thaw in a refrigerator and grocery shelves thin out in the last 48 hours before the holiday.

For something more local, the Mill City Farmers Market runs indoors in the Mill City Museum lobby, at 750 S 2nd St, on the first and third Saturdays from November through April, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. In November 2026 those Saturdays are the 7th and the 21st, so the 21st is the last market before Thanksgiving. Confirm the dates on the market’s site before you go. Mill City Museum itself charges $15 for adults, and tickets are sold on site only, according to the Minnesota Historical Society. We cover it and other stops in our guide to museums you can visit without a car.

How do you cook a turkey safely in a small kitchen?

Plan on thawing in the refrigerator rather than on the counter, and use a thermometer. The federal FoodSafety.gov temperature chart lists 165 degrees Fahrenheit as the safe minimum internal temperature for poultry, including a whole bird, breasts and any stuffing cooked inside it. A smaller turkey breast cooks faster and fits more easily in a studio oven, which is one reason many people in apartments choose it.

What if you are here for a month or more?

Thanksgiving is often just one moment in a longer stay. Travel nurses at nearby hospitals, contractors on an assignment and people between homes all book Oakland’s on 9th by the month, with no contract. If that is you, cooking a few real meals a week is one of the easiest ways to make a temporary place feel like home. Our November 2026 downtown guide and December guide list what is happening around you once the holiday is over.
