Can You Get to Paris Couture at Mia From Downtown Minneapolis Without a Car? Oct. 4–Jan. 17

If you are staying downtown for a month, or just a week, and you want to see the big fall exhibition everyone is talking about, the practical question is simple: how do you get there? Paris Couture runs at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) from Oct. 4, 2026 to Jan. 17, 2027, and Mia sits a little south of the downtown core. Here is how guests at Oakland’s on 9th can make the trip without a car.

What to know about Paris Couture tickets and dates

Per Mia’s exhibition page, general admission to Paris Couture is $20, youth 17 and under are free, and the show is in the Target Galleries. Mia’s free member days for the exhibition are Sunday, Oct. 11; Thursday, Oct. 29; Saturday, Nov. 21; Thursday, Dec. 17; and Friday, Jan. 1, 2027. Tickets are sold through Mia’s ticketing site, linked from the exhibition page.

The museum’s own visit page lists hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday through Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday. It is closed Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. General admission to the permanent collection is free, while special exhibitions need a ticket.

How to get from downtown to Mia without a car

Mia’s address is 2400 Third Avenue South, in the Whittier neighborhood of South Minneapolis. Mia describes itself as a few minutes from Eat Street and the downtown theater district, and says it is reachable by public transit. According to its directions page, Metro Transit Route 11 runs along the museum, and several other routes pass within a few blocks. Because routes and schedules change, plug your exact start and end points into the Metro Transit trip planner on the morning you go.

If you would rather skip the bus, a rideshare or taxi to the main entrance on Third Avenue works too, and Mia notes a circular driveway there for drop-offs. Our guide to parking near Oakland’s on 9th covers what to do if you do arrive with a car, and Mia’s own lot and ramp are priced at $10 and $15 on its directions page.

Why a month-to-month studio suits a long exhibition run

Paris Couture is open for more than three months, so there is no rush. Our guests tend to go on a weekday morning or a Thursday evening, when Mia stays open until 9 p.m., then come back to a quiet, fully furnished studio. Each one has a full kitchen, WiFi, heat, all utilities and free laundry included, with no long-term contract. Some units are pet friendly.

We are in a restored 1889 brownstone at 215 South 9th Street, so the building has its own story to tell too. For more to fill your calendar, see our November downtown guide, and if you are planning ahead for cold weather, our Minnesota winter checklist for extended stays helps.
